Sony launches a taxi service in Tokyo
According to its official website, electronics giant Sony launches its S.RIDE taxi service in Tokyo.
The service is a joint venture between Sony, its payment services subsidiary and five licensed taxi companies in Tokyo.
The ride-sharing services with unlicensed vehicles are illegal in Japan, so the new service will serve as a platform to connect a passenger with one of the 10,000 licensed taxis.
Users will be able to register a credit card in advance with the S.RIDE application to make online payments for their future rides. Moreover, passenger can pay for a ride with a simple QR code scan,
However, no information is provided on whether the service will be rolled out overseas.
