As a home based worker for 4 years now, I can say that it really does come with a lot of perks and advantages and one of which is to travel while working. If you are like me who works from home, you understand that working at home is the MOST convenient working environment. Although I have a strict working schedule, where I work is not an issue as long as I get to have a fast and reliable internet.
Because my girlfriend and I work together (as my friends would call us “the power couple”), we have the luxury to travel together and still earn a living. One of our goals is to become a full-pledged digital nomad and in the Summer of 2015 when we started to do some travelling and fulfill one of our goals in life (although financially, we still can’t support the lifestyle of travelling from one place to another. Maybe in the near future). Today, I’ll be sharing with you the things that I bring along in my workation.
1. Laptop and Power Cord
The life blood of my work, without it I wouldn’t be even working at home to begin with. I recently purchased an Acer Aspire E 14 (Intel Core i5, 4GB RAM, 1TB HD). This is fairly new and has only been with me for less than 2 months. So far, I like its performace and it’s definitely an upgrade from my old HP laptop that only has 500GB HD and running on Intel Celeron.
2. Wireless Mouse
I can do away with just using my laptop’s touchpad while I’m working in my full-time job, however, since I also do image editing while I’m off from work (mainly for my blog sites), I prefer using a mouse since it’s easier to edit photos.
Because I always do client meetings remotely and make calls internally, I invested in a good but inexpensive over-ear computer headset. What I have is the Plantronics .Audio 628. It has the capability of cancelling background noise and it’s also Skype certified.
Because of the nature of business that the company I work for is in, I need to make sure I have an iPad (or any tablet I should say) to do some testings in behalf of our clients. What I have is the 1st gen. Apple iPad. This has all the apps that I need for work as well and as for games, I probably have 1 or 2 just to kill time while I’m travelling.
5. Writing Materials, Notebook, Planner
Although we use a software to jot down notes internally, I’m really an OC person so I see to it that I have pens, a notepad, and my planner so that everything is organized – meetings, reminders, company ideas, team feedback, etc.
6. Mobile Phone
Lastly, of course, my cellphone. Although I have all the necessary apps and software that I can use to communicate with my boss and my team, I also text them from time to time especially if they’re experiencing internet issues, they went on over break, etc.
These are the things that I must pack whenever I travel (and work). It’s not all the time that I travel but if there’s a business trip that I need to attend to or I need to fly going to one of our staff, all these things are always with me.
How about you? Do you also work home based? Do you do workations as well?
